Karlovy Vary or Carlsbad (German: Karlsbad), is a spa city situated in the western part of the Czech Republic on confluence of Ohře and Teplá rivers. Karlovy Vary is named after Charles IV, who founded the city in 1370s. It is historically famous for its hot springs (13 main, about 300 smaller springs and warm-water river Teplá).

The city is also known for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and popular Czech liqueur Karlovarská Becherovka.

Karlovy Vary is a rich city and popular celebrities destination with lot of architectonical beauties.

Until their expulsion in 1945 the majority of the population of Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) spoke German.

Karlovy Vary is also the birthplace of world famous Nashville Predators goalie Tomas Vokoun
