Prominent Cypriot theoretical physicist, Professor Mustafa Halilsoy received his PhD degree in Graviational Physics from Middle East Technical University. His supervisor was Y.Nutku, a student of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. His works on colliding Gravitational Waves are well known. He was a visiting fellow in Austin, Texas with John A. Wheeler in 1976-7. He is best know on his contribution "the Nutku-Halil Solution for Colliding Impulsive Gravitational Waves" and this work is cited by Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar on his paper appeared in Proceedings of the Royal Society, A, 396, 55-74, this work cited by other researchers as well i.e. [1] [2] Original work appeared in 1977 on Physical Review Letters. Phys. Rev. Lett. 39, 1379–1382 (1977) [3] He is still actively working on graviational theories in Eastern Mediterranean University in Cyprus. He had many Masters and PhD students who are actively working in the field i.e. Ozay Gurtug [4] and Izzet Sakalli [5].
