prohibitionism

Neo-prohibitionism is the belief that the influence of alcohol on modern society should be reduced, either by legislation restricting the sale and use of alcohol, or by changes to social norms. Because prohibition in the United States and elsewhere has been an unsuccessful - and unpopular - policy in the past, there are no major organizations in the United States that openly claim to be "neo-prohibitionist"; the label is usually applied by critics of a group or individual, rather than by the group or individual themselves.
