Mexico (Spanish: México) is a federal republic of 31 states (Estados) and a Federal District (Distrito Federal). Mexico is located in the southwestern part of mainland North America, bordered by the United States to the north, and Belize and Guatemala to the southeast. It is the northernmost and westernmost country in Latin America and the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world with an estimated actual population of about 106.5 million.
The city was located in what is now the San Juan Teotihuacán municipality (population 44,653 as per 2000 census figures), in the State of México, Mexico, approximately 40 km (about 25 miles) northeast of Mexico City, which covers a total surface area of 82.66 km².
