ɟThe Yaqui River (Río Yaquiin Spanish) is a river in the state of Sonora in northwestern Mexico. Being the largest river system in the state of Sonora, Yaqui river is used for irrigation.
With approximately 320km (200mi) in length, it flows south and southwest to empty into the Gulf of California. However, there seems to be various versions of the length of the river. According to the information provided by México para niños, a site which belongs to the Presidency of the Republic of Mexico, the river has a length of 554 kilometers, while the article of Río Yaqui in the Spanish Wikipedia states that the length is about 700 kilometers.
Yaqui river originates in the Sierra Madre Occidental and flows into the Gulf of California near the port of Guaymas.
Its course is interrupted by several reservoirs like Plutarco Elías Calles (El Novillo), Lázaro Cárdenas (Angostura), or Álvaro Obregón (El Oviáchic), which provides the water resource for the intensively irrigated region of Ciudad Obregón.
