Respiration is a term used in both biology and biochemistry:

Respiration (physiology), the process of exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide between an organism and its external environment
Gas exchange, the tissue-level exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, a component of physiological respiration
Breath, as in one cycle of inhalation and exhalation, used in the context of "eighteen respirations per minute", for instance
Cellular respiration, the process in which the chemical bonds of energy-rich molecules such as glucose are converted into energy usable for life processes, represented in chemical nomenclature as "C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂ -> 6CO₂ + 6H₂O + Energy released/ATP"
