Softly, Softly was a British television drama series, produced by the BBC and screened on BBC One. It centred around the work of plain-clothes CID officers in the fictional town of Newtown, near Liverpool, in the north-west of England. It started in 1966 and ran until 1976. The series was a spin-off from the hugely popular Z-Cars. The series takes its name from the proverb, "Softly, softly, catchy monkey." - stealth[1] should be used in order to catch the criminal.
